HSG achieves Planet Mark certification
Derby-based washroom water conservations specialists HSG has further strengthened its sustainability credentials by becoming the latest member of the Planet Mark global community.
HSG in Pride Park has achieved Planet Mark certification in recognition of the reductions the company has already made to its carbon footprint and its commitment and plans for future improvements.
The company will now work with Planet Mark to achieve its ambitious sustainability targets across its operations from fleet management to energy consumption and waste.
HSG managing director Simon Rice explained that the core ethos of the company was sustainability. Its unique Ureco water conservation system is installed in washrooms at hundreds of venues across the UK and was recognised with The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation for the positive impact that is having on businesses from single site pubs to the NEC.
HSG’s Ureco urinal sleeve stops smells by trapping urinal odours below the surface and reduces blockages through our patented enzyme system which breaks down the fat, acid and salt in urine.
This enables the Uretech water manager to reduce urinal flushes from around 96 times to just four times a day – saving money by reducing water consumption by up to 96%.
He said: “Having helped hundreds of customers improve their environmental credentials and dramatically reduce their consumption of water by installing the Ureco system, we were keen to work with Planet Mark to improve sustainability across our operations.
“We have already made significant improvements to our carbon footprint but, like the vast majority of businesses, recognise that we too still have a long way to go.
“Being part of the global Planet Mark community will enable us to work with the organisation and other companies who share our passion to make a world of difference in a wide range of industries to share good practice and scrutinise all aspects of our business.”
Planet Mark CEO Steve Malkin added: “I’m thrilled to welcome HSG to the Planet Mark community, and am inspired by their commitment to continuous improvement in this Decade of Action.
“The company is already making great strides in terms of their sustainability, and I am proud to be supporting HSG on this next step of their journey.”
Planet Mark certification follows HSG’s success in a competition launched by Wates Group and Lloyds Banking Group to find the next generation of green tech businesses that will support Lloyds in its transition to net zero carbon operations.
HSG’s innovative Ureco system now has the opportunity to be piloted across Lloyds’ branches and offices and was selected because of its ability to deliver against Lloyds Banking Group’s ambitious operational pledges, which commit to net zero carbon operations and a 50% reduction in energy consumption by 2030, as well as a 40% reduction in absolute water consumption by 2030.
As well as the chance to be rolled out across Lloyds’ branches and offices nationwide, the Ureco system will be added to the Wates Innovation Network (WIN) Portal as an Innovation Partner, alongside other pioneering green tech businesses.
The Portal is a free to use online marketplace for suppliers of environmental technologies that enables them to connect their product with built environment customers across the supply chain.
