Weekend of Events Launch New Déda Facilities
Derby-based regional dance house Déda is holding a weekend of performances and events in October to herald an exciting new chapter for the organisation.
The £412,000 redevelopment programme at the venue in Chapel Street in the city’s Cathedral Quarter has included a new dance and circus studio, conference and meeting rooms as well as new seating and flooring installed in the existing Theatre.
These facilities will be officially launched with a special weekend of events from Friday October 24 to Sunday October 26 with a range of performances and a family fun day which are all open to the public.
Déda has also launched a new BA Hons Dance degree in partnership with the University of Derby and the first students on the course will be among the hosts welcoming visitors to the new facilities.
The launch weekend starts with a performance by Tavaziva Dance on Friday October 24 – starting at 7.30pm with a pre-show talk by Artistic Director Bawren Tavaziva at 7pm.
Tavaziva Ten is a stunning and seductive collection of ten five-minute pieces depicting the extraordinary story of one man’s imagination in a special anniversary show celebrating the company’s ten years of unique dance-making.
Bawren Tavaziva’s distinctive African style is powerful, memorable and entirely contemporary and the performance journey includes pieces from past shows including Sensual Africa, Wild Dog, Greed and Mandhla.
Then on Saturday October 25 the first performance of the new LaDéDa Burlesque Cabaret will be held at 8pm with a lavish evening of entertainment.
The cabaret is produced by lead performer and rock ‘n’ roll redhead Scarlett Daggers and hosted by lyrical lothario Stage Door Johnny.
They are joined by an eclectic line up including showgirl Anna Fur Laxis; knife thrower and illusionist Havana Hurricane; unashamedly risqué Vegas-style glamour comedienne Crimson Skye; and burlesque puppeteer Kiki Lovechild.
Family fun is the order of the day on Sunday October 26 with Déda inviting children aged four and above and their families to take part in a wide range of circus skills and dance workshops with resident artists WinterWalker and the BA Dance students.
There will also be the chance to tour the new facilities, learn more about the dance classes available for all ages, marvel at aerial and circus skills demonstrations and enjoy a unique interactive performance by WinterWalker which will take visitors on a promenade around the venue.

“We hope that the diversity of the performances and events throughout the weekend will encourage people to come and see dance in a new light and learn more about how they can get involved in the future – including the new Circus Skills Sundays family workshops which will start in the New Year.”
Tickets for Tavaziva Ten cost £10 (8 concessions); LaDéDa Burlesque Cabaret tickets cost £12 with VIP tables of four available for £80 with stage-side seating and a bottle of Cava; and tickets for the Family Fun Day are £5 including the workshop and performance.
