The Cathedral Quarter – Derby’s Central Business District
Derby Cathedral Quarter is the city’s established central business district with a wide range of highly regarded and long-established local, regional and national professional firms based there.
Locally-based specialists range from banks and accountants to estate agents and solicitors and the area is home to the city’s flourishing creative industries many of whom are based at the purpose-built Friar Gate Studios.
The Cathedral Quarter is now building on the legacies of the past to meet the business needs of the future.
Friar Gate Square is shortly due for completion with the first six storey phase consisting of 32,000 sq ft of office space. Construction work is due to start on the Cathedral Quarter Enterprise Centre in Bold Lane – creating 34 individual serviced offices with the first tenants due to move in early 2014. And further key office developments have been granted planning permission in the area.
Businesses in the Cathedral Quarter recently voted to renew the area’s status as a Business Improvement District (BID).
The previous BID has been successful in re-establishing the area as a premium destination for businesses and visitors and collective work moving forward will focus on providing a great lifestyle experience for visitors and people working in the area; building awareness and promoting the strengths of the different business sectors including professional services; and encouraging growth, development and investment of businesses.
Martin Langsdale, chair of the Cathedral Quarter management group, said: “Despite the lure of Pride Park, the Cathedral Quarter continues to the city’s central business district where existing companies continue to expand and new businesses join them.
“As well as being easily accessible for both employees and clients, the Cathedral Quarter has a real sense of community where businesses are proud of their surroundings and quality business address.
“We have seen a significant rise in the number of enquiries for premises here – particularly amongst the professional services sector – and the further commercial property development underway and planned will greatly enhance what is already a thriving area with a quality business address.”
