Blissful New Start for Maggie
When Maggie Clark moved to Derby to make a new-start after the breakdown of her marriage, little did she know that this was the beginning of an exciting new chapter in her life.
Maggie (49), who has two grown up children and two grandchildren, has since completed a degree in complementary therapies at the University of Derby and has now set up her own business, Blissful Balance, in the Cathedral Quarter.
The Sadler Gate salon offers a wide range of treatments including reflexology, aromatherapy and Swedish Massage with plans for further expansion in the future including mobile and corporate work – offering treatments in the home and workplace.
Maggie explained: “I have always worked with people including nursery work, caring for older people, and retail but when I moved here from the West Midlands to be nearer my daughter, she persuaded me to go along to the University to look at my options for re-training.
“After a year doing a foundation course, I opted for a Complementary Therapies degree and loved it. Not only did it give me the opportunity to learn something totally new, my lecturers also recognised that I have dyslexia which was never picked up at school and put a lot of support in place to ensure that I could cope with the written work. It was very empowering to finally realise why I couldn’t cope with some things and needed to approach learning in a different way.
“Finishing the degree has particularly given me the confidence to now set up my own business – giving me the independence that I have always wanted and I couldn’t be happier.
“I was having my hair done at Alfreds salon downstairs when they mentioned that the floor above was vacant and I fell in love with it straight away.
“My family have been very supportive although we all recognise that this is a difficult climate in which to open a business. Nevertheless, I am determined to give it 200% and make it a success.
“This is my passion as I love helping to make people feel better about themselves and it gives me a great deal of joy when a client walks away satisfied.”
