Fairy Tale Line Up For Annual Concert

East Midlands orchestra sinfonia ViVA is teaming up with accomplished actor Kenneth Alan Taylor for the highlight of this year’s New Years Eve Gala Concert at Nottingham’s Royal Concert Hall.

The concert entitled ‘Once Upon a Time’ is inspired by classic childhood stories, fairy tales and legends and will treat concert-goers to a varied programme of timeless melodies.

The highlight is Prokofiev’s brilliant children’s symphony Peter and the Wolf, written in 1936 and narrated by Kenneth Alan Taylor.

Kenneth has starred on stage and television for many years but has been best known as the writer, director and flamboyant pantomime Dame at the Nottingham Playhouse who entertained Christmas audiences for 25 years before hanging up his wig two years ago.

Prokofiev’s timeless classic will share the limelight with several other well known pieces including Humperdinck’s passionate Overture to Hansel and Gretel; the gentle lulling of Coates’ Three Bears Waltz; the elegant Dance of the Mirlitons from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite and a fabulously catchy selection from Bernstein’s West Side Story.

sinfonia ViVA conductor Timothy Redmond explained: “This year’s New Year’s Eve Gala Concert in Nottingham promises to be a warm and convivial affair – evoking wonderful memories of stories that we were introduced to as children and still love as adults.

“We have carefully chosen a varied programme to suit all tastes but the highlight is undoubtedly Peter and the Wolf which has been a favourite of mine since I was young and never fails to make my heart pound and the goose bumps rise as the tension mounts throughout the story.

“I am very much looking forward to combining the skills of the Orchestra and character soloists with Kenneth Alan Taylor’s mesmerising voice to take the audience on Peter’s legendary hunt for the wolf.

“By bringing together so many different emotions and musical genres throughout the New Year’s Eve programme, we hope that this will be the perfect way for the audience to round off the old year and prepare to welcome in the new.”

Early booking is advised for this hugely popular concert, which has been sold out for the past four years.  Popular Premium Seats are again available and the booking includes a free programme and a £4 bar voucher on the night. Tickets are on sale now from the Royal Centre Box Office, Tel 0115 989 5555 or online at www.trch.co.uk .  Prices start from £10.
