Derby College Beauty Therapy and Nail Technology students are busy with their last minute practice and preparation having clinched coveted places in the national finals of the UK skills competitions.
Eight students who are based at the College’s beauty therapy academies at The Roundhouse, Derby, and at Field Road, Ilkeston, will be competing in the national UK Skills finals held this year at Cambridge College on Saturday June 25.
They are: Nail Technology Students Jessica Wesson (21) from Littleover, Jodie Allen (19) from Spondon; Suzanne Hvaal (43) from Hilton; Kristen Mabbott (19) from Littleover and Jo Edwards (19) from Derby. They will be joined by Beauty Therapy students Amy Smith (21) from Eastwood; Emma Bostock (20) from Burton and Melanie Squires (35) from Ripley.
Melanie will attend the final hot on the heels of winning second prize in the SEBTA Carlton Professional Electrotherapy final in Brighton earlier this week.
Assistant Principal Amanda Jogela said: “The competition finals were held at The Roundhouse last year and we were delighted that Jess Wesson won the Gold Award.
“It is an incredible achievement that seven of our students have reached the finals this year after sweeping the board in the regional competitions and we have every confidence that they will perform very well at the event.
